No comic today but here are a couple of things I’ve been sitting on for a few months.

A sketch page I stole from Sade, one of my students this year. I thought it was so good I couldn’t resist. It reminds me of the kind of thing I do in my sketchbook from time to time. Look at this, she’s so good!

student drawings: king kong, part one

Posted in student drawings with tags , on September 13, 2012 by Christopher Pearce

Early in the first days of school, a student of mine came over to my desk and asked me if I liked the movie King Kong- I have a picture of one of the theatrical posters from the original 1933 movie above my desk. I told him heck yes, I love Kong… and we got into a discussion about the flick. I could tell he was a fan because he knew all about the unfilmed “spider pit” sequence from the original flick.

Well, a few days later he brought this to me. PREPARE YOURSELF FOR SOME AWESOMENESS:

I don’t think you’ll argue with me when I point out what a better artist this guy is than I’ll ever be. Just look at how amazing this thing is… and then wait for tomorrow when I post his second drawing.

student drawings: batman highlights

I’ve slacked off big time in scanning some of these terrific student drawings of me in the last few weeks. To refresh: Every year on my final exam, I give students a one point bonus if (after they are finished with the scholastic portion of the test) they draw a picture of me. I spend the better part of the year drawing pictures of myself on the chalkboard, so I’m interested to see what their take on me is.

I got a LOT of Batman drawings this year, so let’s jump into it!

students draw me: week two highlights

Posted in student drawings with tags , , on June 10, 2012 by Christopher Pearce

Not a lot of kids draw my body, but I give this student an A+ on getting my …ah… “huskiness” right without making me feel like the world’s largest man.

Again with the Unicorn in Captivity tie! I swear, it’s easily one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten from the Met.

students draw me: the senior class

Every year on my final exam, I give students a one point bonus if (after they are finished with the scholastic portion of the test) they draw a picture of me. I spend the better part of the year drawing pictures of myself on the chalkboard, so I’m interested to see what their take on me is.

I got a lot of great drawings and sketches this year and I’m going to take a couple of Sundays out of the summer to show them off.

This week’s drawings come from the seniors in my Media and the Pen class.

2011-2012 school year: mustache!

Posted in 2011-2012 school year with tags , , , , , on February 23, 2012 by Christopher Pearce

I know the facial hair thing is a little weird, given how I normally draw my beard as just a random zig-zag line. I will also ask that, starting next week, you just forget about my mustache. I shaved it off immediately after making a splash with my “asshole movie producer” character during the students’ presentations.

I guess I could have said this yesterday, but that “character” I do is basically Irwin Mainway, the shady businessman character Dan Aykroyd played on Saturday Night Live. You can see why I’d want a mustache for that, right? Right?

Would you like to se some of the Romeo & Juliet posters from this year’s 9th graders?  Check behind the cut.

the final “students draw me” post of the summer

Posted in student drawings with tags , , on August 28, 2011 by Christopher Pearce

Howdy howdy! It’s been a few weeks, but with the onset of the 2011-2012 school year, this blog’s getting ready to come back to life! I’ll begin posting new teaching comics the Tuesday after Labor Day, which is (as I understand it) the first day many students and educators head back to their classrooms. I’ve been back to school for two weeks already, but… southwestern Ohio, man. What are ya gonna do?

Anyhow, I wanted to post a couple more of these awesome drawings of me before we get back into the swing of the school year and I take up Sundays with chalkboard drawings.

students draw me, part six

Posted in student drawings with tags , , on July 25, 2011 by Christopher Pearce

The Assignment: As a fun “bonus question” on their final exam, students were asked to draw a picture of yours truly. I’m taking Sundays throughout the summer to share these unique works of art with all of you.

I love this one because it makes me look like an extra on Gossip Girl. Also, the artist gets bonus points for intimating how hard I worked them throughout the year!
