Teacher Comics: Warm Bodies

It seems like every time I do Romeo and Juliet in my class, Hollywood has come out with a new spin on the tale. A few years ago, it was Gnomeo and Juliet. I believe there’s a big budget new version of the tale hitting theaters this October with Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet. I’ve even read that ABC just commissioned a series based on updating R&J to the modern era for next season!

For the record, I haven’t read or seen Warm Bodies yet but given the connection to Shakespeare and the interest my students have shown, I’ll get around to it eventually.

The movie was great. The book was kinda meh. I know it’s very rare that the movie is better than the book, but I felt like the movie was great because it had a sense of humor and didn’t take itself seriously while the book did. As far as the connections to R&J, they’re definitely there, but they’re limited. Similar character names, star crossed lovers, etc. It’s definitely not anything like a version of the play. You should definitely check it out though.
