Teacher Comics: $taying afloat as a teacher

Here’s the thing – I understand complaints from the layperson that teachers don’t deserve automatic pay steps if their students are underperforming. I don’t agree with the argument, but it has a certain ring of truth and fairness to it.

The problem becomes that education is such a multi-faceted thing, it’s impossible to quantify exactly how and when to award more money to teachers… and most higher-ups are perfectly content to leave it at that. “It’s hard to figure out how to adequately compensate good teachers so we’ll just pay some lip service to the idea that teachers SHOULD be well paid but not do anything to advance that agenda.”

…and in the meantime, check back tomorrow to see what that’s meant for me over the past three years, and what it means for me going into the next school year.
