My classroom needs help!

Hi everyone! While a lot of teachers and students are preparing to go back to school next week, I’ve already been at it for about half a month! Ohio schools resume pretty early and I have to say… I’m loving my new job more than I ever hoped I would. It’s exiting and, in a weird way, kind of a relief.

One of the most exciting things about my new position as a 7th grade ELA teacher is that I’m going to be doing a lot of work with my kids through sustained silent reading and student choice. I’ve always been pretty passionate about SSR in the classroom and I’ve done a load of comics about it. Here’s one.

I’m encountering a problem however. I’ve been a high school teacher for the better part of my career and frankly, a lot of the books I have in my classroom lending library aren’t all that great for the age groups of my new students. Some of the themes are a little mature, some of the content a little more tuned to older readers than the kids I’ll be working with on a daily basis.

Which brings me to this: I have a DonorsChoose proposal up right now to refresh my classroom’s comic lending library. Longtime readers know how passionate I am about getting comics into the hands of students. This project will let me have books more tuned to younger readers in that area of the classroom.

Please check the project out and help if you can. I know there’s a lot of ways you can spend your charitable dollars in 2017 so your support is much appreciated.
