Answering some questions about comics…

Posted in 2015-2016 school year on November 8, 2016 by Christopher Pearce

A few weeks ago, a teacher friend of mine asked me if I’d answer some questions for her class about drawing comics and being a working cartoonist… so I recorded a YouTube video running through my answers to those queries. Here it is!

(please be gentle, I did this in one shot and there are probably more “um’s” and “uh’s” than a guy who makes his living talking to teenagers should be uttering during a 18 minute long video)

Notes from a professional development…

Posted in 2015-2016 school year with tags , , , , , on June 3, 2016 by Christopher Pearce

I’m on summer vacation, officially! The very weird thing about this year is that there will probably be more comics being posted here over the next two months than normal… which is a good thing, but totally off my normal schedule.

I thought I’d share some of my notes from a recent professional development my school gave this week. In the past year, I’ve found I’m a kinesthetic learner, which is something I suppose I’ve always known but hadn’t really done any research on for myself.

Another comic for Teacher’s Appreciation Week, kinda. I drew it back in the fall but just got around to inking it this past week.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and I drew this comic in appreciation of my son Henry’s teacher.

It’s a new comic! Hooray!

Greatest Hits begins tomorrow…

Posted in 2015-2016 school year on March 21, 2016 by Christopher Pearce

Hey everyone… I just thought I’d let folks know, over the next few weeks I’ve decided to do sort of a “greatest hits” thing on the blog. I’ll be reblogging some of my favorite comics over the past few years with perhaps some additional commentary about the whys and wherefores of the strips themselves.

Yes, this is sort of a stop gap until I can get around to putting up new strips… of which I have a bunch, I swear! I just need some time to ink them. Maybe over our upcoming Spring Break.

At any rate, enjoy the reruns, I hope to be back to posting brand new stuff really soon.

A eulogy for Creature

CreatureComic

Some sad news – Creature, the cat that belongs to my best friends Melissa and Brad, died this weekend.

Longtime readers of my comics probably remember Creature – he became QUITE popular during the LiveJournal days, when I was first starting to put my comics up online. Those comics still exist over on LJ and you should check ‘em out. He was a great cat.

We are heavy on eulogies on this website in the last few days. I will do something to try and change that before the end of the week.

A eulogy for Harper Lee (sorta)

I started out doing a comic about Harper Lee and it ended up being more about my 6th grade English teacher.

Hourly Comic Day 2016

Yes, the calendar has turned once more to February 1st, which as we all know is the day when autobiographical cartoonists on the Internet celebrate themselves by drawing a comic every hour for the balance of the day. yes, Hourly Comic Day is once again upon us!

I participated in 2013 and 2014 and I think I started to do a set in ’15 but forgot to post them: you can see my aborted effort over on Tumblr HERE and HERE. I stopped at around 4 PM in 2015 because I had a ton of essays to grade.

I have to admit, looking at some of the other hourlies that comic artists are making, I feel a deep jealousy for the amount of strips I saw that featured staying at home, eating a late breakfast, and hanging out!
