HW1

As is my tradition every October, the chalkboard becomes a countdown to Halloween with some of the most famous ghouls in monster-dom. We went with modern monsters this week, more or less. The zombie was drawn for the premiere of The Walking Dead but I gave him that blueish pallor that George Romero outfitted his zombies with in Dawn of the Dead.

If you’re noticing a big name left out here, it’s because he made an appearance this past September 13th.

Unfortunately, I got a little messed up on the countdown but… I still like ‘em anyway.

thrift store finds: another round of rejects!

Let’s end the year with some rejected Thrift Store Finds. These are things I picked up at our local St. Vincent de Paul store which, for whatever reason, I couldn’t figure out a way to dedicate a whole entry to ’em.

chalkboard post 2010 – #7

Posted in chalkboard drawings with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 24, 2010 by Christopher Pearce

October is an all-monster themed chalkboard drawing week. Last week I did the classic movie monsters… this week, I did modern monsters.

Two notes about this one: Firstly, the “Friday the 13th sound effect” should probably be written as “ch-ch-ch, ah-ah-ah”. Secondly, right after I took this picture, I realized that having Jason brandishing a machete on my classroom’s chalkboard was probably too intense for anyone so I erased it.

…see, you can kind of tell with my drawing of Ghostface here that I avoided that “waving a deadly weapon around” quagmire. It looks a little strange though.

This one is “by student request” since I’ve only seen the first Saw movie and found it pretty repugnant.

…this one came out pretty good. I like that it’s a joke on how ugly I find myself to be, as well as a general dig at the Child’s Play movies.

For the rest of October, I’ve challenged myself to draw some kind of movie monster into my morning chalkboard drawings. I tried to stay within the last twenty or so years for the first week.

I used the same Benchmark for three days because honestly, that’s what we were doing for three days, in three different ways.

This will probably be the Benchmark I use every Friday, as that’s when I give my students time in class for independent reading.
Incidentally, I also tried my hand at the Jigsaw puppet from those Saw movies but it was so bad I decided not to inflict that one on you.
