I know some teachers love having students sit in on parent teacher conferences… and more power to them. Myself, I find having a student in a PT conference becomes a distraction and sometimes a hinderance to what the goal of that time is supposed to be. As I put it to my students who do come in, “You get an entire lifetime with your mom/dad/whoever. I only get fifteen minutes twice a semester. Give me some time!”

While it’s true that nothing can quite replicate the one-on-one that a parent teacher conference can generate, I can easily see them becoming a thing of the past. There are so many points for communication for parents these days… and skilled teachers know that even at the high school level, making regular phone calls home (both constructive and critical) will only help in the classroom.

Anyway, this whole week of comics is about parent teacher conferences.
