Rudolph

If you’ve been following my comics here for long enough, you know the drill – every December, I draw my family’s Christmas card featuring all of us in some kind of seasonally appropriate homage. This year I decided to have a go at Rankin/Bass’ seemingly immortal Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. As a kid, this one was always my favorite.

Take a stroll back through Christmas and Halloweens past with some of the other Pearce Family Holiday drawings.

I draw a picture of myself on my classroom’s chalkboard everyday. I collect those pictures as camera phone photos and post them on Sundays. See the rest here.

Xmas2

Thankfully, my laptop decided to comply, so I can present to you all a holiday themed week on my chalkboard. My choices were slightly upset by an unplanned snowday midweek, but you won’t hear me complaining.

odds and ends: my christmas decorations

Posted in odds and ends with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on December 23, 2011 by Christopher Pearce

Seeing as it’s the last Friday before Christmas, I thought I’d take the opportunity to share with you some of my holiday decorations.

Please note the possessive pronoun “my” in the last sentence. While the family has many nutcrackers and ornaments that are shared throughout the house, the decorations I’m going to show you are emphatically mine. Indeed, I am sure Ellen is more than happy to let me take full responsibility for the following. Most of them are Christmas themed action figures I’ve collected over the years. There seemed to be a moment in time in the early ’00’s when EVERY Christmas special ever created received a high-quality line of toys. This was probably not a great idea, as evidenced by my admission that almost all of these were picked up at some kind of After-Christmas closeout sale for 75% off.

At any rate, you’ll find my collection behind the cut. If you’re a fan of 30 year old men blathering on about action figures, you’re in for a treat. Please enjoy and have a happy holiday!

chalkboard post 2010 – #14

I was going to do an all X-Men themed week until I realized that I didn’t know how any of the other X-Men look! I know how they looked back in the 1990’s when the cartoon was on TV… but I don’t have a clue now! I think I’m going to do a Fantastic Four themed week, starting tomorrow… they’re a bit more consistent in their fashion choices.

November 3oth is Mark Twain’s birthday.

I was falsely under the impression that CBS was airing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer this past Thursday. I was wrong.

I was kind of impressed that most of my students knew who this was. Of course, I suppose we’re not too far removed from a time when Cartoon Network showed old cartoons like Space Ghost… and true, most kids recognized him from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast… but still, with how quickly  pop culture moves these days, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had been forgotten.

FREE IDEA: Hanna Barbera should do a new version of Space Ghost a la Batman: The Animated Series, where they treat the character seriously. I know Space Ghost was never all that serious, even in the ’60’s and ’70’s, but it’s SUCH a great Alex Toth designed costume. I’d love to see the character lavishly animated someday.
