My family used to have this Halloween window decoration: a cheapie cut-out picture of Dracula. It was pretty innocuous during the daytime, but at night, it scared the hell out of me! I would stare at it and give myself the heebie-jeebies.

Mind you, I still made my mother hang it in my room every Halloween… because I guess I kind of liked being scared.

I thought I’d post a couple of sketchbook pages I did awhile ago. The theme: stuff that scared me as a kid.

I grew up in the era of mom and pop video stores. Now largely a footnote in small business history, in the 1980’s, starting a small video store was no doubt a treasure trove for entrepreneurs. Our local video store was called Four Star Video and it was a hub of childhood goings-on in my life. When my family first bought a VCR, we owned no movies for it, so once a week we would go to Four Star and rent stuff. I usually went for cartoons like Bravestar and Batman.
