The happiest of holidays to all who read the comic, but a special thanks to the folks who donated to DonorsChoose in the past few weeks. I had another project funded yesterday afternoon and one well on its way thanks to people like you all. It is very appreciated amongst my students… and I also appreciate it as well.

not teaching comics: holiday week sketches
Posted in Uncategorized on December 22, 2009 by Christopher PearceSo I was planning on posting comics all through this week, but I came to my senses and realized that most people aren’t going to be on the Internet during Christmas. Chronologically, we’re only in mid-November with these comic strips and I am anxious to keep going… but I’m not going to fall on my sword or anything. Instead, for the next few days I’m going to scan and draw some sketches that students have requested over the last week and a half.
At the end of every first semester, right before holiday break, I send a piece of paper around the classroom and tell students that I will draw them whatever they’d like. There are some restrictions, of course (no caricatures, no cartoon characters from shows that might raise red flags at home like South Park or Family Guy, and so on) but for the most part, I let them ask for whatever they want within reason. I end up doing quite a lot of the same types of drawings usually; Spongebob, Homer Simpson, and Mickey Mouse are always popular.
This was a drawing that I did NOT give out. It was requested but it didn’t meet my criteria (it’s a caricature AND sort of suggestive). Still… I was so impressed that someone requested a Star Trek drawing that I went ahead and drew it anyway for myself on my prep period. I guess the movie really took hold of at least one of my students.
