I know some teachers love having students sit in on parent teacher conferences… and more power to them. Myself, I find having a student in a PT conference becomes a distraction and sometimes a hinderance to what the goal of that time is supposed to be. As I put it to my students who do come in, “You get an entire lifetime with your mom/dad/whoever. I only get fifteen minutes twice a semester. Give me some time!”

While it’s true that nothing can quite replicate the one-on-one that a parent teacher conference can generate, I can easily see them becoming a thing of the past. One of the things I love about literature circles are how the students self-monitor their groups to make sure things get done.

I draw a picture of myself on my classroom’s chalkboard everyday. I collect those pictures as camera phone photos and post them on Sundays. See the rest here.

Olympics1

I 100% do not care about The Winter Olympics at all… especially this year,  where every event held out of doors seems to come with a caveat from the commentators about how the snow or ice is “extra slushy” because someone stupidly chose a coastal vacation spot in Russia with moderate temperatures for the games.

Having said that, I can at least try to get in the spirit with my chalkboard drawings.

I also like Honey Graham Oh’s but I  could eat a box of that in two days so I generally stay away from that as a choice in the cereal aisle.
